Our Expertise is our ability to train students, in several dance disciplines, whatever their age, ability or experience. Passion, knowledge and experience are the assets our teachers possess which they pass onto our students in creative friendly way.

We now have a small dancewear shop situated in the changing room where ALL Calvella regulation uniform can be purchased.

IDTA Examinations take place in May every year at our studio and these are open to all students. However, the main aim of the school is enjoyment, IDTA and I can assure you your child will progress at exactly the same level whether you decide to enter examinations or otherwise.

Every July the School performs a Summer Show and I.D.T.A. Awards Presentation Evening. 2023’s Summer Show Finale was The Little Mermaid which was performed on Saturday 15th July at Wolfreton Theatre.

During the summer holidays we provide a week of dance musical theatre workshop, where the children will perform a small show at the end of the week to friends and parents.

2023 Summer School was Encanto, all the students performed amazingly well and produced a very high quality show considering they only had 4 days to practise before performing it. Well done everyone.

2024 week of dance is week commencing w/c 19th August 2025.

The week of dance is open to non Calvella students too. If you would like to book a place for 2024 please call Miss Caroline on 07818 085919

At Christmas time each year our annual Pantomime is held. 2024 pantomime was Beauty & the Beast and it was performed at the Hull New Theatre on Saturday 13th January. We were all very excited to be performing at that outstanding theatre.

We have booked for 2025 – Our Pantomime is Puss in Boots @ Hull New Theatre on Saturday 11th January.

For these shows stage costumes are required, but please be assured we keep the cost to an absolute minimum by taking full advantage of the Studio’s large wardrobe and utilising the excellent costume hiring facilities whenever possible.

The studio is very popular for Dance Parties. Our assistant teacher takes charge of these parties, which takes the pressure off the parents, by organising games and finishing with a dance routine to be enjoyed by all for the parents to watch.

The Principal – Miss Caroline

I started dancing at the tender age of 2 when I joined Calvella Studio as a Calvella Cutie. This is where I first became part of the Calvella Team. Over the years I systematically progressed through all the ballet and tap grades, graduating in both disciplines by the time I was 20. During these dancing years I made many life long friends and I have enjoyed and performed in many many shows, various charity and local events.

My mum founded the school over 70 years ago and I took over as Principal in 2001 moving the school forward.

Dancing has always been a major part of my life and I am sure it has enhanced my educational aspirations and has given me confidence with interviews and business presentations. Through the love of dancing I changed my career to become a Primary school teacher and follow my love of teaching.

As well as Dancing I also have studied and graduated in Drama. I am an associate of the London College of Music. In 2014 we became known as the Calvella School of Performing Arts and we have now incorporated Musical Theatre into the school, which helps with our annual pantomime.
