IDTA Examinations take place in May every year at our studio in Hull and these are open to all students.

We are proud to say we have 100% pass rate at Calvella!!!

However, the main aim of the school is enjoyment, and I can assure you your child will progress at exactly the same level whether you decide to enter examinations or otherwise.

The International Dance Teachers’ Association is one of the world’s largest dance examination boards, covering the full spectrum of dance examinations on a global scale. The Association celebrated its centenary in 2003.

The aims of the Association are:

– To promote knowledge and foster the art of dance in all its forms
– To consult.
– To maintain and improve teaching standards.
– To offer a comprehensive range of professional qualifications in all dance genres

The IDTA is a member of;

– British Dance Council (BDC)
– Council for Dance Education and Training (CDET)
– Federation of Dance Awarding Bodies (FDAB)
– Sport & Recreation Alliance (SRA)
– Theatre Dance Council International (TDCI)

The IDTA is an Ofqual and Welsh Government recognised awarding organisation.

Examinations

The IDTA has developed a range of examinations suitable for all ages and levels of experience and achievement.

The Association offers a wide variety of tests and awards for amateur / social dancers including Rosettes, Stardance Awards, Pre-juvenile Groups Awards, Preparatory and Primary Grades; plus a wide range of medal tests in many genres, from one dance through Bronze, Silver and Gold medals and advancing through the Bars, Stars and President’s Awards.

The following IDTA graded and vocational graded qualifications are recognised by the Office of the Qualifications and Examinations Regulator (Ofqual) and the Welsh Government Department for Children, Education, Lifelong Learning and Skills (DCELLS) and appear on the Qualifications and Credit Framework (QCF).

Attainment bands for all the above examinations are Unsuccessful, Pass, Merit and Distinction.

The IDTA certificates for the Ofqual recognised grade and vocational graded examinations will bear the Ofqual and Dells logos. Certificates for other IDTA examinations will bear the IDTA logo only.

Pre-Associate examinations:
The IDTA offers Pre-Associate examinations for candidates wishing to study to become a dance teacher with the Association. The examinations are designed to prepare the candidate for the Associate teaching examination.
